RELEASE

Given the current situation of notable potential damage to Panama's reputation and to the good name of its citizens, businesses, professionals, and all those who strive daily to advance the country's progress, the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama declares the following:

  • The Rule of Law - and all laws, conventions and treaties that recognize Panama's sovereign right to take measures leading to its full development as a nation - should be upheld and respected.
  • AmCham recognizes the joint efforts of Panama's government and private sectors towards concrete progress in the implementation of laws against money laundering and terrorist financing; these efforts have been recently recognized by international and technical experts leading to Panama's removal from the "gray list" of the Financial Action Task Force (FAFT).
  • We strongly reject any attempt to cause wholesale damage to the reputation of Panama, to its business and professional communities and to its population.
  • We are a young nation that has built a vibrant and competitive economy after decades of hard work and ingenuity by public and private sector leaders, attracting significant levels of foreign investment for tangible, concrete and lawful activities.

AmCham intends to support all efforts by the Government of Panama and the country's business and professional communities to keep our country's name in good standing before the global community.
